40 things – Charity Update

Just a quick update to 40 things, item Raise 1000 pounds for charity.

In November I raised 40 pounds for Zoe’s Place taking part in the Midnight Walk 2010, and in December 50 quid was raised as part of the Cartoon Facebook Avatars and the NSPCC thanks to Ramblingpaul, Deborah Lough, Ann-Marie Mills, Natasha Mountford, Sarah-Victoria McGoldrick, Patricia Lankshear, Josiah Jones, Michael Heaney, Garry Stonehouse, and Emma Inkles.

That’s a total of £140 making the goal 14% complete.

Productivity – Jan 2011

Janaury was not the super productive month I would liked to have start the year with.

Fitness
Weight: 163.2lbs +3.8lbs
Body Fat 24.1% +0.9%

It’s official. I’m larger than I’ve ever been! Wooo, this is bad thing. Going to the Gym three whole times in a month is at fault here.

Now this is one area where I have been making progress. I’ve got my message down to about half, and completely cleared my RSS feed. The podcast backlog was reduce by calling Podcast bankruptcy, and it’s quickly growing again!

I’ve clear a lot of the other goals *mostly by closing ObscureInternet down), but have managed to increse the goals in my inbox. This is a target to reduce in February.

Read plenty of books in January mostly thanks to me reading through the Ender’s Game books. No nights out however, no wonder I’m a bit down at the moment. I need a good night out. Number of blog posts also needs work.

Blogs I read (and so can you).

t been a while since I’ve done any recommended blog posts or indeed recommended blogs, so to make up for that I thought I would be nice enough to provide what blogs I think you should be reading (in no particular order)

Mercuryvapour

The blog that start it all, you can blame this Jamie for inspiring me to start blogging when I discovered his blog back in 2001 when it was hosted on scribbler.org.uk

Lemonpillows

Recently relaunched and now updated on a regular basis, this blog offers rare no holders barred look into Lemonpillow‘s life.

SennyDreadful

Jennifer Williams, one half of the sadly not longer updated boxroom postcast, has a newly moved blog where she talks about her love of creepy stories and writing. The blog also has some excellent short stories to read.

I’m Not Doctor Who

Pete Davison‘s one a day blog. How it updates this daily with some many words while keep the quality so high is amazing and it even comes with a comic most days too! It makes this blog look like dog sick.

Igor’s Darkened Corner

Evil Dave‘s, of the InsideOutcast podcast, personal blog covers a lot of different topics such as Muscle Memory, Serial Killers and Iron Man. Like the insideoutcast it is always very well researched.

Redparsley

An excellent retro blog ran by RetroKingSimon which looks at, amongst other things, movies, and anime and games. You won’t be surpised to hear my favourite posts are those looking at old games such as JetPac, and Rolling Thunder

Obsolete Gamer

Although it feels like it was only set up about five minutes ago, Obsolete Gamers has been going from strength to strength. With hundreds of posts and videos, it’s seemly updated every time you blink. A great gaming website that look at games new and old and what is going on in the gaming industry.

A Commodore Geek’s Blog

If you are like me, by which I mean a massive Commodore computers fan, you’ll think this recent discovery is an excellent site. Full of interesting information about the lesser known machines, interesting facts and information about the new models from Commodore USA.

If your blog is missing from this list then it’s probably because, I forgot about it (I follow a lot of blogs so even I follow yours I could have forgotten about it), I don’t know about it  or because you don’t update it often enough. So get updating your blogs and leave me a comment and I’ll check it out.

Productivity 2010 – 2011

This was original going to be a productivity post for December, but it’s not become more a celebration of terribleness and therefore a great starting point for 2011.

The short story was December was a lazy Month.

Fitness
Weight: 159.4lbs
Body Fat 23.2%

I don’t quiet weigh the same as much as a did before I started my big diet but it’s pretty close. More on my Body plans in another exciting blog post.

I seem to have let my messages go totally out of control. This is what I’m working on first.

Goals
Overdue 4 +33.33%
Inbox 46 +2.22%

This hasn’t really moved too much, but that’s because I haven’t been adding new tasks as well as not completing the outstanding ones.

So know you know what I did do during December; Read and go to the pub. I read Superfreakonomics (disappointingly it got more and more political) and the first four Ender’s Game books, which are great (more on those in another post).

Looking back on 2010

Just like I did in 2008 and 2009 it’s time to look back on the last year and then complain that I didn’t get a lot done.

So look back at 2010 I’d say I didn’t get a lot done! There you go, post finished. Nah, just kidding although the general idea is right. I didn’t get a lot done. I however did make a  few steps in the right direction. The key to getting all this sorted is religiously sticking to GTD (Getting things done), it’s very easy to get a few things done and then stop following the system which happen a lot in 2010. So the key to 2011 is to stick to it the system. Document the task, process the inbox and complete those items.

Highlights of the year that I can actually remember include;

Finally here is 2010 in somewhat random photos.

While putting this together I’ve noticed that I don’t take as many photo I use too, they are lots of events I don’t have a single photo for. So more photos will be taken next year. Music is by Serge P more about it here.
