Recommended Podcasts

podcastsRecently, outside work and my real life, I’ve been trying to catch up with my outstanding items. These come in three favours email, RSS feeds and podcasts. In the last few days I’ve managed to get both my email and RSS items down into single figures. The podcasts have been a different story, I had subscribed to so many podcasts, that I had hundreds of episodes to listen before I could catch up. So I’ve took drastic action and severely reduced my subscription to podcasts.

Here are five of my favourite Podcasts that I still subscribe to.

The c64 takeaway

The show that started it all, this is the podcast that introduced me to the world of podcasting. Produced and Hosted by Jan Lund Thomsen, the brains behind remix.kwed.org. It’s a semi-regularly (with the emphasis on the semi) dispensed dose of music from and inspired by the Commodore 64.

The Box Room

This is a recent discovery. Presented by Marty (That Bloke) and Jen (the Token Female), it’s all about Film, TV, Sci-Fi, the world, and generally anything geeky. Interesting, challenging, charming and fun are just a few of the words I would use to describe this podcast. It’s has become a must listen for me.

It also as a community of regular contributors, and even I sent in some feedback.

The InsideOutcast

From regular Box Room contributors David and Brandi comes the InsideOutcast (which is an awesome name) this talks about Muppets, Nerds, Goths, Spies, growing up in Utah, death on Sesame Street, and lots of the other stuff.  Sometime very personal always very funny.

Iain Abernethy

A Karate podcast, primary dealing with the practical application of Kata, but other touches on other subject such as martial art history and goal setting.

SLAY Radio Live Show Archive

Not really a podcast, but a chance to download shows from Slay Radio that I have missed or ones I  just want to hear again.

I listen to a few more podcasts than those listed above, but they are on similar theme to what has already been mentioned. I may cover these others in future when I get my outstanding listen down to a manageable level and start subscribing to new podcasts again.

Quick update on the sun, webdesign, podcasts and window wipers.

You have probably noticed that over the last week or so that I have been blogging more. I think it is because of the change in the weather. My procrastination seems to decrease when the Sun makes an appearance, I hate the dark winters.

I'm still working on the new design for the blog, but I thought I'd better finish the new version of ObscureInternet that I have been working on for ages (I hate to think how long it is) first.

I was listen to some of the HansIsland Podcasts earlier this week, and I realised that it's been over a year since the last one, which is a great shame. I hope it's not gone forever, mainly because I was in the last one and I would hate to think I killed it. I've also been looking into possible starting an monthly ObscureInternet podcast, I think it would be a lot of fun If I can get it arranged.

You remember the car I purchased last year, well I've just discovered by car does have a rear screen window wiper. I genuinely believed it did not have one, despite it being clearly viewable on the back of the car. How embarrassing.

Yes, I suck!

Right, I officially concede that I am rubbish at updating websites, which given my position is a pretty crappy state of affairs, but I’ll do my best to update you in my so called life.

I’ve had a return to the Gym and I’ve actually managed on a couple of occasions to do a full work out. One of my fears since I started working away is the amount of weight I would put on from having fancy hotel or restaurant meals every night, so I took the bold step of weighing myself for the first time in six month, and I was shocked to see I’ve only put on about 2kg. I hope to keep going to the gym and maybe start swimming as well.

I’ve also being playing with a MySpace profile for myself and ObscureInternet go and have a look. Myspace seems to be good way out get people interested in your band/website/film/whatever so I’m going to keep exploiting that.

Seems Overclockers are not the only company with shitty customer service. I’ve got my lovely K800i at last (it’s a fooking awesome phone, the camera is outstanding) from Vodafone, however it’s the deal I’ve got is not the deal I asked for on the phone. I rang up and got through to someone called Neil in Upgrades who sounded about 12, who told me I could have the phone as I free upgrade on a twelve month contact, he also asked if I wanted a month free insurance which I politely decided. So imagine my surprise a number of days later when I got a not through my door telling me that I had agreed to a eighteen month contract and insurance.

I immediately call Vodafone and after 15 minutes waiting to get thought or speaking to other people I’m eventually put through to a guy called Craig in the ’14 day returns’ department. Craig was a great guy after listening to me explain my problem, he decide that it sound like too difficult problem a problem to be bothering with at 4.30pm on a Friday afternoon so he said ‘hello’ down the phone a couple of time to give the illusion that the call had been lost before removing his headset and leaving it on his desk. I’ve work in contact centres long enough to know when someone is taking the piss out of me.

When I call back I was put thought to a lass the same department (I forget her name) who could have give a shit about the appalling service I had received, instead she thought it was sufficient to tell me that you could get the phone I order on a twelve month contacts.

On a lighter note as you hopefully have read and heard I had the pleasure in taking part in my first podcast. I work with Rob from the HansIsland podcast, and he was kind enough to ask my a couple of guys we work with (who are also OI forum members) to be on a show. The podcast has seen a large number of new visitors to OI which is a great thing and long may it continue, also since the first podcast we have also recorded some more footage, so you may be hearing from us again.

Conor has recently developed a small interested in football which has led to me taking him to football on Friday Nights after school. On the subject of football I have some Abzanspondor news. is talk of a Abzanspondor legends reunion match to take place in the near future, more details when they are in!

HansIsland Podcast

Hello all, I’m very excited as I’ve just appeared in my very first podcast. HansIsland were kind enough to ask a few people from ObscureInternet.com including myself to be on a show. Go have a listen.
