Movember 2011

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

Since it’s such a good cause. I’m taking part in 2011′s Movember. You can see my progress so far in the images above. Half way through and I’ve never very good at growing decent looking facial hair, but these images don’t look too bad and are rather better than how I look in the real world.

You can follow my Movember page or just choose to donate. Thank you!

More things I’ve been doing rather than blogging.

Has it been almost a month since that the last ‘things I’ve been doing rather than blogging’ posts, doesn’t time fly when you are doing things other than blogging.

Writing

More bits of writing. Battle Squadron remake news for ObsoleteGamer, a  Dorks Dilemma review and a plug for All things Mastertronic on Commodore is Awesome.

Work

Being doing a bit of Travelling with trips to Sheffield, Lytham and Manchester Training. Even managed to squeeze in a bit of class room based training, the first in many years, on SAP Business Objects, which is a very nice bit of reporting software.

Events

Attended a couple of events in Middlesbrough. At the start of July there was BoroTweetUp and the Headline Honey’s 2nd Big Birthday. Last week there was the United Colours of Middlesbrough outdoor event, in opposition to the racist EDL march on the same day.

A today was the very very rainy Middlesbrough Mela. Which spoilt what is usually an excellent day.

Google+

I’ve also been playing with Google+ these last couple of weeks. If you haven’t managed to snag a invite just ask below, or if you want to put me in one of your circles, my profile is at https://plus.google.com/103171458263919561598/

I’ve got some proper blog posts coming shortly, and an some more information about C64 Week.

Things I’ve been doing rather than blogging.

It’s a common theme. I apologise for not blogging a lot, and then tell you what I’ve been doing instead. This post in no exception to that theme, in fact it’s a celebration of it.

Writing

I have been doing some writung. I’ve wrote articles on ObsoleteGamer, and ObscureInternet. Such as ADYA & GEISHA – CHERUBINOS ARIA and PROJECT ZOMBOID.  I’ve recently agree to write for Commodore Is Awesome which is a blog about all things Commodore, I’ve got some long unfinished posts from these blog which I will finish up for it. I’ve also kicked off the Borotweetup blog, which is worth checking out if you are from or based around Middlesbrough.

Exercising.

I have still been visiting the gym, although not as often as I’d like, but it’s hard to juggle these things, especially with the gym being so far away.  I’m also still going to Karate twice a week and I shall be going for my next belt in a couple of months, which should be interesting.

The company I work for are encouraging the employees to get healthy by registering their weight, exercise, and steps taken over the next three months. I’m taking part in this, as it bring out the competitive side of me, which is a good thing.

Playing Games

Playing expensive AAA titles for your game console is so mainstream, all the cool people are playing games developed by Indepant developers, and so am I. Recently, I’ve been addicted like a crackwhore to Minecraft, but I’ve also been playing Terraria, Cortex Command, VVVVVV and Project Zomboid. I’m going to get some features and reviews about them on Obsolete Gamer soon.

Camping

Did a bit of camping at the lake district during the end of may. It poured down the whole time. Here’s a picture of some ducks to illustrate.

Boro Tweets Ups

As I’ve posted about in the past, I’ve been attending and helping to arrange the borotweetups, a meeting of people on twitter users from Middlesbrough and surrounding areas. Each tweet up is attracting more people and  it’s a great night out.

Tweet up

That’s all I can think off for now, but the main point of this post was just to get writing again, hopefully this will kick off some more posts in the near future.

April’s Boro Tweet Up

The april BoroTweetup, was another great night out. A good time was had by all.

I brought Cup cakes, kindly made by my niece

Cakes

Yaffa brought this amazing cake (Recipe here).

Here’s an invite to May’s Tweetup, don’t miss out

The First Boro Tweet Up

I am a big fan of social media website and application Twitter and I’ve been using it for almost four years. However in all that time there has never been a tweetup (a meet up between local twitter users) in Middlesbrough (or anywhere on Teesside as far as I’m aware). There has been attempts to arrange them previously but these have all been cancelled or moved to other areas due to lack of publicly or lack of attendees.

This all changed on March 4th 2011 when the #Borotweetup took place at Blu which I attended along with @yaffa (as her alter ego @lovembro), who arrange the event, @williamtheblood, @richard_glover, @davidjinks (also known as @fffridge) and a special guest appearance from @borofutsal who dropped by to kindly hand out some free tickets.

Sadly a number of people who wanted to come had to drop out of the event at the last-minute, but we still had a great time and Richard, who unfortunately could not stay for the full event, even brought this rather lovely looking (and tasting) cake.

Cake

You can find the recipe for the cake on Richard’s blog.

Strangely I didn’t take any photos, so I don’t have any more images to share with you. It was probably due to my social awkwardness which I defeated with the liberal use of Vodka.

In summary it was ace, and I can’t wait for the next one.

Pancakes and Pointless exercises in self improvement

It’s lent, so again this year I crowd sourced my facebook and twitter contacts for suggestions on things to give up for lent.

  • Cornflakes (Lee) – A bit of strange one this, as I don’t eat cornflakes, and obviously crunchy nut cornflakes are too nice to give up.
  • Social Networking (Bill) – Ha, Never!
  • Lent/Giving up - (porterdarren/Mick)
  • Scat porn (Mick)  - Wait, wot? This is supposed to be stuff I do now. My tastes are a little more extreme than that.
  • Give up all hope of the Coalition giving us a decent Budget to promote economic growth (Andrew) – Again, this isn’t something I’ve got to to give up.
  • Sucking tramps cocks (Adrian) – Oh, you!
  • Ice cream (Brooke) – Ah, a sensible suggestions again.
  • Sarcasm (AndyMc_) – I did try this one last year, but only lasted a few hours.
  • Using cotton buds to clean out your ears. It’s wrong, but it feels so gooood! (LilvixenUK) – How else can you clean your ears if you give this up?
  • After asking what I liked the most Minecraft (steelrattus)
  • The colour red. No red smarties, no blackcurrant, no strawberries, no red tshirts. Or the colour grey or beige. (Lemonpillows) - A very original and creative this one, but probably a little to clever for my will power.

Ok, so from those suggestions I think this years list will be as follows;

  • Ice cream
  • Minecraft

The ice cream I’m not to worried about but over month without Minecraft is going to be very very difficult.

40 things – Charity Update

Just a quick update to 40 things, item Raise 1000 pounds for charity.

In November I raised 40 pounds for Zoe’s Place taking part in the Midnight Walk 2010, and in December 50 quid was raised as part of the Cartoon Facebook Avatars and the NSPCC thanks to Ramblingpaul, Deborah Lough, Ann-Marie Mills, Natasha Mountford, Sarah-Victoria McGoldrick, Patricia Lankshear, Josiah Jones, Michael Heaney, Garry Stonehouse, and Emma Inkles.

That’s a total of £140 making the goal 14% complete.

Productivity – Jan 2011

Janaury was not the super productive month I would liked to have start the year with.

Fitness
Weight: 163.2lbs +3.8lbs
Body Fat 24.1% +0.9%

It’s official. I’m larger than I’ve ever been! Wooo, this is bad thing. Going to the Gym three whole times in a month is at fault here.
