The First Commodore 64 Week

Well I think it’s safe to say the least week’s first ever c64 week was a big success. We had avatars changed, games played, music listened to, tweets tweeted, Facebook posts posted, and blog posts written.

There was a couple of completions. IlRoberto of MOS6502.com has a guess the c64 screenshot competition with prizesKate-Z also had a screen shot competition, this time just for fun on twitter, which kept us entertained, and some times confused when she made it a lot more difficult.

Anna Black had a c64 week special Anorak on SlayRadio, even if there was some technical issues with the stream we still had fun. You can down and listen to the show from the Slay Radio download page.

We discussed our favourite C64 games, such as

Wizball
Hardball
Zak McKracken
Wizard
Epyx Games Series
8bitweapon‘s Silo 64
Uridum
Daley Thompsons Decathlon
Delta
IK+

And our least favourite C64 Games.

Which is pretty much Intergalactic Cage Match, warning the below video may make you cry.

There was new music to listen from C64 Remix site; kwed.remix.org.

Kd8bxp posted this Video on how; Unbuntu supports SID files natively -

Also at the end of week where the already established c64 events of the

Slay Radio Gathering (Sweden)
Assembly Summer 2011 Demo Party (Finland)
Little Computer People Party 2011 (Sweden)

At the end of the week, we had fun and played some c64 games at that’s what it all was about. So 65535 thanks to everyone who took part and supported c64 week.

Until next year.

Commodore 64 Image Week Aug 1st – Aug 7th 2011

Anna Black recently mentioned that there was large number of people changing their profiles pics on Facebook using the c64 YOURSELF website (check it out, it’s excellent tool for converting images into Commodore 64 style graphics).

This inspired the following thought, why not have a week when c64 fans change their Profile pictures and avatars to something Commodore 64 related? We could use the first week in August to celebrate the approximate date the c64 was released back in 1982.

Thoughts?

Update 2011/06/20 21:54 – Some great feedback on Facebook and Twitter so far. If we manage to makes this a success I will have a nice little c64 related surprise for you all.

Top Remixed C64 Artist and Tracks Infographic

Inspired by a Twitter conversation with @anna_black and @sbutterworth  about which Commodore C64 music track has been remixed the most often. I have created an infographic showing which C64 artist had been remixed (on remix.kwed.org) the most in 2010. It was supposed to be one of those clever infographic thingies but when I finished it just came out as a bit of pie chart.

A little bit of Rob Hubbard for you.

I haven’t done a post about C64 music post in absolute ages. So when I learned that  handsome and multitalented Phil Strahl‘s podcast The Bleepcast has not one but two podcasts dedicated to the works of Rob Hubbard I thought it was time to share.

So if you like a bit of Hubbard check out the BleepCast – Level 6 and BleepCast – Level 7.

Also I’ve got a speical bonus for you. Did you know Rob Hubbard wrote the music for Jet Set Willy? No, well that’s because he only wrote the music for the rather terrible Atari version. Isn’t it weird the worst conversion of this classic gets the best music.

Here’s a Youtube video featuring the music from this rare classic

I’m really spoiling you as I’ve also got this excellent remix of this track by Serge P.

You can download this remix from here; Rob Hubbard – Jet Set Willy (Serge P. remix)
