Closing some websites down.

Recently I decided that I had far too many websites that I either owned or ran for other people, this wasn’t helping with my productivity (although it was a massive boost to my procrastination) so now I’ve started to do something about it.

The biggest news is that ObscureInternet is closing, the ObscureInternet forum is not however, as it has been transfered to forum.64glen.com. If you remember BrokenInglish, you’ll know it died a while ago but now has been reborn with a new admin who (thankfully for all concerned) isn’t me.

My other blogs Crappy Remixes, A bit of Politics and The Secret Karateka have all been closed and their posts can now all be found within this blog. I’m working on simplfying the categories to make them more logical and to make the blog easier to navigate, and I may also be working on a snazzy new design. When I say may, I mean I definately am, and have spent the last few hours working on it, but it requies the categories to be sorted first.

All this should make things a lot simpler, giving me less to worry about and free up my blogging time so I can blog more here at c64glen.com and do the odd articles for other websites such as Obsolete Gamer. That’s the idea, anyway.

Managing Life

So after my success in getting my weight down. I’ve been looking at my goals again lately.

The idea is to use Remember the Milk to manage my short term (life, website and work) tasks and 43things for my long term goals.

I’ve got a Remember the Milk  pro account and the android application installed on my HTC Desire. So all I need to do there is start using it full time to manage my goals.

I’ve been using 43things for quiet a while. Lately I’ve being trying to add the majority of my 40 things to do before I’m 40 to 43things as well as adding some new long terms goals that I need to focus on. Such as

I let you know how this all goes.

Server Move

This blog has had the eRemoval men in. It has moved from a server in a building in Manchester to slightly fancier server in the same building. The new fancy server is a Linux server and has lots of fancy new features such as multiple MySQL databases and lots and lots of Subdomains.

It took quiet a while for it to be shifted and there was a few hiccups, but all is up and running now and so It’s now safe to leave new comments.

New posts coming soon…

New Custom Built WordPress Style

I’ve finally finished the new blog design although I suspect there will be some fiddling and a bit bug fixing in the next few days.

This design was made by myself completely from scratch, and is meant to be a cleaner and simpler design. It feature new graphics and a redesigned comments section, which now features nested comments.

Leave me a comment telling me what you think or if you’ve found a bug.

Dennis Markuze nut job

I got some comment spam this morning, from the famous Dennis Markuze. He’s a famous Nostradamus nut job who has threatened to kill PZ Myers and all atheists.

He was posting a bit of barely readable silliness which I think was suppose to say that the Theory of Relativity proves that there is Christian god.

After a bit of investigation it looks like he is spamming any blog that belongs to a atheist. He must be using Mojoey’s Atheist Blogroll to pick his victims becaise I’ve never really posted about being a atheist.

Wordmobi is shit

I just wrote a deep heart felt, really breakthrough blog post on in Wordmobi and then because of it’s fucking shitty interface the post was cancelled. I’m going to do all my mobile blogging in the Opera Mobile browser from now on. In the meantime imagine this was a really great post.

Clever Spam

Last week I received the follow comment on one my C64 related blog posts

Spam Capture

Akismet has flagged it up as spam, but when I looked it I found the comment was on topic (the C64 being old school and 80s) the user had a gravitar and reasonable looking email address, so I was tempted to flag this comment as not being spam, but I decided to a little investigation first.

Searching for Britney Bennett on the internet found a Flickr account, on-topic blog comments on moelane.com, deepcapture and simonblog which all look real enough.

Looking at the linked website http://www.britneybennett.com/ it gives big clues about the intent of these blog posts. Lots of pictures of a pretty girl and then some links to the extremely dodgy dating site fling.com

The final nail in the confin for poor Britney Spammett is the IP address used to post 24.10.128.14 is a well known spammer address, and may be the only reason with Akismet spotted it as being spam.

Research this, I found a similar comment spammer Mandy Corvo who has more blog comments. The website used this time is http://www.mandycorvo.com/ which again links to fling.com. This account also uses the following twitter account http://twitter.com/mandycorvo.

Sadly it looks like the war against spam just escalated again.

Lazy Bloggings

As you may have noticed I’ve not done much blogging recently, so to make up for it here is a massively long post (for me). I’ve been on a two week break from work ,as a usually do this time of year, and a few things have happened during this break.

First of all was Conor’s 10th Birthday. He had a nice birthday cake and loads of cards also and he got Wii Sport Resort  with two of those new Wii Motion Plus controllers and a lot of new books.

Conor and I have had great fun playing Wii Sports Resorts, but I’m a little annoyed that his random shaking of the Wii Motion Plus allows he to beat me in the Sword fighting every single time.

A couple of days after that it was my Birthday, I’ll skip over my age which I’ve decided to only count in hexadecimal in future.

As a treat to myself I purchased a collection of Retro Video Game albums from Ebay

Some absolutely brilliant stuff here, including the three Remix64 and Back in Time albums and others from Reyn Ouwehand and Makke. Conor took a liking to Karma 64 and asked for it be put in the car.

Now I’ve got all these albums I may even get around to doing that remixed c64 music radio show that I’ve been talking about for almost a year.

The present from my lovely family was rather awesome, being a Sony PRS-505 eBook Reader.

I’ve had loads of eBooks that I’ve want to read sitting on my PCs hard drive for years, but I haven’t been able to read them because I find it very difficult to read a book from a computer screen so this is the prefect present for me. The reader now has a brand new 4GB SD card with a load of interesting books on it.  I’ve already finished a few books from it, it’s very easy to use and I’m very happy with it.

Another birthday to happen in the last two weeks was this Blogs Birthday. It had it’s 8th Birthday on the 8th August, so here’s to another 8 years of sparely posting.

Also during those two weeks holiday, we’ve had a few days out,the nice of which was a trip to Whitby. It was the only place I remembered to take any pictures. I’ve seemed to have got out of habit of taking my proper digital camera out with me everywhere I go, which is quiet a change around for me.

One place I will have my Digital Camera with me, is York this Saturday night. It’s a bit of busy Weekend for me, as I’ve got a Stag Night to fit around a four day summer Karate course.  I will be training on Thursday and Friday Night, training on Saturday morning, then jumping on the train to York for the stag night, and then on Sunday morning I shall be taking the train back from York in time to see the final half day of the course which will have Kata and Kumite Competitions.

Something for the weekend

Have I used this title before? It seems likely, as it is a massive cliche.

Anyway, I’m gonna copy what those proper blogs do, and give you some suggested blog reading material for the weekend (I’m not sure what happen if you read them during the week). Some of these are a little old, but give me a break, it’s my first go.

That’s your lot for now, I’ll try and make these a weekly thing.

Thanks for your very kind offer, but….

This week I got three seperate invites to a website called LadsLads.com, which is a little odd as It’s a  Gay Networking Website and I’m not gay.

I’m not sure if they are spam, as Google doesn’t bring up other people receiving the same message, but I don’t know any the people who have invited me.

The messages appear in the following format;

Mail Title: <USERNAME> of <LOCATION> hay can you rememeber me?

Hi its from <NAME> here in Sunny <LOCATION>

This is to let you know that I’ve got myself up at LadsLads.com

You can see my videos, pictures and blogs not to mention chat with me directly on the live chat.

My new LadsLads is <USER URL>

So thanks, WashyLad , nikelad22, and donmagic but I think I’ll pass.
