Posted on Oct 12, 2010 in Technology

When looking through my followers list on Twitter, I began to wonder about is the correct social etiquette for unfollowing people. So I asked the following question on twitter.

I got the following responses;

What are your thoughts?

    I’d probably be hurt if someone unfollowed me and told me the reason why, especially if it was someone on my “flesh” list.

    If only you had some……………..

    Unfollows don’t bother me. I’m not vain about my number of followers. Having conversations with people now and again gives you a sense of friendship, but there must be something in common to start with. And if the unfollower had nothing in common with you, and hardly ever conversed with you, then why should you be bothered about the unfollow?

    I’ve followed people, found their interests uninteresting, and unfollowed them, only be greeted with a tweet taking offence along the lines of @GarryTheBiz unfollowed me, well that’s his loss not mine!

    Gee, calm down, it’s only Twitter! Just accept that you probably don’t have interests in common.

  4. I use BirdBrain on the iPhone to keep track of my followers and normally the people that unfollow me are no big loss. Once someone I really cared about unfollowed me and I asked them what was up. They told me they were tired of me flooding their stream. Apparently, I was the only one of their twitter friends that tweeted with any regularity.

    I guess it just happens sometimes.
