Weekend Here come the Mummies and Daddies Links

Another Friday and therefore I have another selection of links for your reading pleasure

A bumper crop for you this week, hope you enjoy them.

Clever Spam

Last week I received the follow comment on one my C64 related blog posts

Spam Capture

Akismet has flagged it up as spam, but when I looked it I found the comment was on topic (the C64 being old school and 80s) the user had a gravitar and reasonable looking email address, so I was tempted to flag this comment as not being spam, but I decided to a little investigation first.

Searching for Britney Bennett on the internet found a Flickr account, on-topic blog comments on moelane.com, deepcapture and simonblog which all look real enough.

Looking at the linked website http://www.britneybennett.com/ it gives big clues about the intent of these blog posts. Lots of pictures of a pretty girl and then some links to the extremely dodgy dating site fling.com

The final nail in the confin for poor Britney Spammett is the IP address used to post 24.10.128.14 is a well known spammer address, and may be the only reason with Akismet spotted it as being spam.

Research this, I found a similar comment spammer Mandy Corvo who has more blog comments. The website used this time is http://www.mandycorvo.com/ which again links to fling.com. This account also uses the following twitter account http://twitter.com/mandycorvo.

Sadly it looks like the war against spam just escalated again.

Courage Wolf Wednesday – Beaten

Zoe’s Place Midnight Walk Completed!

Zoe's Bear

On Saturday night I the completed the  previously mentioned sponsored Midnight Walk around Stewart Park, Middlesbrough in aide of Zoe’s Place.

I managed to raise about 50 quid from friends and family, and about approximately zero quid from the internet donations. Which is disappointing, as I thought people would donate, even it was a couple of quid. I had post a request on the ObscureInternet Forum, Twitter and Facebook, as well as this Blog, so a lot people would have seen it. Also I’ve given to other people when they have requested donations on line.

EDIT: I do have a internet donation, thanks to Daz Adams.

Anyway, enough moaning. I’ve not been put off, and Zoe’s Place has Santa Abseil Down The Transporter on Sunday 6th December 2009 which looks fine it could be fun. All I need to do is raise a minimum £100 in sponsorship.

Gloworm – Carry me home

Yeah, another 90′s old school classic for this week, it’s Carry me home from Gloworm. It reached number 9 in the UK singles in 1994 and it’s a tune I discovered thanks ITV’s excellent late night dance music program BPM.

Weekend Links – A very kind offer

Today is slightly later than usual, but I’ve been all sorts of busy this week. Also my keyboard broke a few hours ago and I’ve had rush out and buy a knew one. It’s taking a while to get used to it as it’s curvy one (I like my keyboards the way I like my women)

It’s been a busy week for the blog, even though I was away for some it, hopefully next week will be as interesting.

Sponsor Me – Zoe’s Place Midnight Walk

Zoe's BearThis is a bit of request for help. I trying to raise money for Zoe’s Place. Zoe’s Place is a home from home for babies/infants who have life limiting illnesses, terminal, special and complex needs. Zoe’s Place offers palliative and respite care for infants from birth to five years old. We receive very little government funding and rely on members of the public, companies and organisations to raise the £800,000 it costs each year to run Zoe’s Place.

It is holding it’s first sponsored Midnight Walk on Saturday 24th October in Stewart Park, Middlesbrough and Suzanne, myself and some friends are taking part. I’ve already raised a small amount from family and friends but as you can donate online, I’m hoping some of my eFriends (i.e. you) will also help.

The link to donate is; http://www.justgiving.com/c64glen/ and you can donate with a Debit or Credit card or even PayPal.

This is also will help towards my 40 Things (number 2).

Music Monday – Rob Hubbard – Nemesis the Warlock

Back to a C64 track this week, and this time  I give you probably my favourite Rob Hubbard track, the loading music form Nemesis the Warlock: The Death of Torquemada. Based on the 2000 AD comic of the same name. It was a simple but fun game and quite violent for the time, with enemies bursting out of other enemies chests and literal piles of dead bodies.
